TAHITIAN
APARIMA
The
Aparima is the dance of Tahiti
often characterized by singers and musicians.
It is not unlikely that the behind the happy and cheerful music of
the `ukulele, you may hear the sounds of Tahitian pahu drum keeping the
rhythmic beat in the background. The
aparima may simply involve the
drumbeats on their own, or a musical mix of both.
You will always know you are watching an aparima,
for the dancers are dressed in the traditional pareu
or sarong of Tahiti.
