ALOHA!

  HULA `AUANA

Hula `Auana, or Modern Hula, is the hula of today.  Be sure to keep your eyes on the hands, not the hips, as the hands tell the story in the hula.  This type of hula is most often accompanied by musicians who use the steel guitar, slack key guitar, or of course, the `ukulele.

Dancers may also use various hula implements to tell a story, including the `ulî `ulî (the gourd rattles containing seeds with feathers on top), the pû`ili (the split bamboo sticks), or the ipu (the hollowed gourd).
